What a terrific start to the new year last Saturday! More than 40 of us gathered at the Civic Garden Center to catch up with one another now that the holidays are well past and to gain new insight into venerable old trees. I don’t think I will walk through a forest (or around the trees in my yard) again without thinking about some of what Tom Kimmerer shared with us. Did you know trees are immortal? That they grow more quickly as they grow older? That they support one another as well as supporting a large variety of other organisms? The information shared was fascinating and the questions answered were helpful. It was a good way to begin 2020 together.
Next month, Michele Banker from the Marianist Environmental Education Center in Dayton will be our guest. We will meet with her at the Civic Garden Center on March 28 to learn about propagating native plants from seed. It should be another encouraging time together as we wait for the coming of warmer weather. More details can be found on the website here along with other events planned throughout the year.
Our board members met in January, discussed plans for the new year, and appointed the following board members to serve as officers for 2020:
- Nan Plunkett, president
- Debbie Lutkenhoff, vice-president
- Teri Gilligan, secretary
- JoAnne Allen, treasurer
- Mark Plunkett, membership
We would very much like to have someone join the board to serve as the hospitality chair. If you have an interest in serving this way, or just have questions about the role, please contact me.
Hope to see each of you soon.
